Dr. Amelia Hilgart immigrated to South Africa in 2010 to pursue her PhD in Molecular Biology at the University of Cape Town. Amelia taught herself programming and machine learning during her PhD and is now the Product Success Manager for a rapidly growing IT company, MethodData, where she often finds herself using systems thinking to solve problems for IT companies. She has also applied these skills for the South African Department of Environment Forestry and Fisheries and the Department of Science and Technology on various projects including the National Climate Change Information System and the South African Risk and Vulnerability Atlas. Amelia plays an active role in Starfish Greathearts Foundation program development, the M&E program, and various IT projects. Amelia married into a South African family and enjoys spending time with her kids and fur babies and having a house full of people!
