As an advocate for positive social change, Poonam Dwakaram has assumed the role of Operations Manager at Starfish Greathearts Foundation. With a profound passion for improving the lives of disadvantaged children and communities, Poonam brings over 30 years of experience in the ECD space and 15 years of experience in community development to this cause. Poonam's work has taken her across South Africa including the deep rural areas to provide children access to 'Learning Through Play'. Her facilitation, assessment, and mentoring have given her the opportunity to meet many amazing people from whom she in turn has learned. Her career started as an Educator, she was promoted to principal, and later she joined the NGO sector as a Programme Manager. She is an avid supporter of bringing positive changes in the ECD sector and creating better opportunities for children to grow in a safe happy environment. For her efforts, she was awarded the 'Excellence in ECD' award in 2021 by the HCI Foundation.
