Starfish USA's CEO Candice Behrens and friends are walking through the beautiful Cotswolds, one mile at a time, for children who may have to walk for hours to reach medical care.

This year, Candice and a group of friends are lacing up their hiking boots and taking on a 71.5-mile walk through the Cotswolds. Their route will take them over rolling hills, through green fields, and along winding paths between small English villages. They will be walking with children in South Africa on their minds, children whose long journeys are not chosen for adventure.

The Mobile Clinic Comes to the Child

In some remote communities, children and caregivers may have to walk up to seven hours to reach a clinic. Imagine setting out before sunrise with a child who has a fever, an infection, or a painful tooth. The road may be dusty and uneven, and the nearest clinic can be miles away. For some families, the journey is simply too far, and a child may go without the medical attention they need.

That is why Starfish Wellness Wagons travel directly into remote and underserved communities, bringing the clinic closer to the child.

When a Wellness Wagon arrives, children and families can receive health assessments, growth monitoring, medicine, testing, preventative care, counseling, and referrals for further treatment, closer to home.
